7 October 2017
Artists Alliance and Te Tuhi are delighted to present in partnership this series of art writing workshops. Each month from July through November we will host a different writer who will share their insight and expertise.
Our third session in this series will be presented by Elle Loui August
Beginning from where?
This workshop will look at different approaches to writing about artworks and question how we might identify our own preferences and patterns. It will take an expanded view of writing practise that incorporates critical, curatorial and poetic modes, with the intention of moving toward both experimentation and clarity. It is open to writers, curators and artists wanting to develop their own approach to their work in writing. Participants are encouraged to bring along documentation of existing artworks or exhibitions -which could be either local or found online- or their own work in development to use as a reference
Elle Loui August is a writer and curator currently based in Tamaki Makaurau. Elle has previously held professional roles at The Physics Room in Christchurch, University of Auckland, and Elam School of Fine Arts where she completed her MFA in curatorial practice through the postgraduate research programme. She has written for a number of institutions and publications including Art New Zealand, Artspace NZ, Pantograph Punch and split/fountain, and presently divides her time between independent writing and curatorial projects and her role as Assistant Curator at Objectspace.
